Just two weeks to go. Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac Games' most anticipated project since its Spider-Man saga, launches on September 15, 2026 as a PS5 exclusive. The date, confirmed earlier this year and reaffirmed during June's State of Play, isn't expected to shift again.
Unlike Marvel's Spider-Man, this new entry ditches the open world. Insomniac is promising a tighter, single-player narrative adventure built around brutal melee combat that fits the character to a tee.
A Logan from before the X-Men
Notably, the game is set in a time before the X-Men even exist. Players step into the boots of a younger Logan, whose fragmented past drives the story, without retreading the well-worn territory of the Weapon X program and his adamantium skeleton.
After a pivotal event at the end of act one, Logan crosses paths with other mutants at the Princess Bar in Madripoor, a fictional, neon-soaked city in Southeast Asia. That's where Team X comes together, a crew of mutant operatives that includes Mystique and Sabretooth, uneasy allies of Logan against anti-mutant billionaire Trask.
Claws, parkour, and Hand ninjas
Previews published this summer describe a fast, feral combat system, positioned as the savage counterpart to Spider-Man's acrobatic combos. Players will hunt down a cabal of ninjas across Madripoor's rooftops in sequences inspired by early-1980s Wolverine comics, blending parkour with brawls against the Hand's foot soldiers.
Variety, which got hands-on time with an advanced build of the game, came away particularly impressed by its storytelling:
"This could well be the best superhero story of the year in video games."
