Grand Theft Auto VI now has a release date that Rockstar and Take-Two call locked: November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Thirteen years after GTA V, the most anticipated game of the decade is finally within reach, and the wait has come with its share of detours.

A launch date that moved twice

Rockstar originally targeted a fall 2025 window for GTA 6. That slipped to May 26, 2026, and then slipped again to the current November date, a six-month push that frustrated fans but didn't come as a total shock. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick framed the delay as a quality call, telling press that the studio wanted to deliver an entertainment experience with no real equivalent, and that meant a few extra months of polish on what is reportedly the most expensive production in Rockstar's history.

It's a familiar playbook. Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were pushed back before launch, and both ended up defining their console generations. Rockstar is betting the same pattern holds here, and this time the studio has publicly reaffirmed the November 19 date is final.

Vice City is back, with two leads this time

The story takes players to Leonida, a fictionalized take on Florida, with a long-awaited return trip to Vice City, last seen in its dedicated 2002 entry. GTA 6 introduces a criminal duo, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and players will be able to switch between the two protagonists throughout the campaign, a structural shift from the traditional single-lead GTA formula.

Preorders, editions and bonuses

Preorders opened on June 25, 2026. Digital preloading is set to begin at local midnight on November 12, a full week ahead of launch, and physical editions land the same day, though they'll ship with a download code rather than a disc, a growing norm for games of this scale.

A few things worth noting for anyone planning to buy in:

  • Every purchase made before November 20 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack
  • Digital preorders come with a free month of GTA+
  • Physical copies require a code redemption, not a disc install

The PC version remains a mystery

There's no confirmed release window for PC yet, and Rockstar's track record with past entries suggests it won't arrive alongside consoles. Based on how GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 rolled out, a PC port likely lands sometime in 2027, possibly stretching into 2028.

Why the stakes are this high

GTA V sold more than 200 million copies worldwide, a number that turned it into one of the best-selling entertainment products of all time in any medium. That success is exactly why expectations for GTA 6 have snowballed into something closer to a cultural event than a game launch.

Whether the final product lives up to thirteen years of anticipation is still an open question. What's not in doubt is that November 19, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched dates in gaming history, and Vostrike will be tracking every update between now and launch day.
