Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a free-to-play battle royale, REDSEC, followed on October 28. A year later, the game has gone from a record launch to a smaller, steadier player base, with EA's 2026 roadmap now in its fifth season.
A record launch, and a win over Call of Duty
EA announced on October 16, 2025 that Battlefield 6 had sold over 7 million units in three days, the biggest launch in the series' history. On Steam, SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 747,440 concurrent players on launch day.
The usual autumn threat didn't land. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 arrived on November 14, 2025, and its opening week in Europe sold 63% less than Battlefield 6's. Battlefield 6 became the best-selling game of 2025 in the United States and the first Battlefield to outsell that year's Call of Duty.
Where the player count stands
As with most multiplayer launches, the Steam peak didn't last. Seasons have brought spikes: when Season 4 launched in July 2026, Steam reached 81,745 concurrent players in 24 hours, a level not seen since mid-February. On October 19, 2026, Steam's API showed 49,394 players in the game at that moment. These are PC figures only: EA doesn't publish concurrent player counts across all platforms.
Player reviews are split. On October 19, Battlefield 6's Steam rating was Mixed, with 237,878 positive reviews out of 375,450 (about 63%).
Season 4: naval combat returns
In April 2026, the studios behind the game published a 2026 roadmap with Seasons 3, 4 and 5 planned for May, July and the fall. Season 4 brought naval combat back to multiplayer, after it had been limited to REDSEC, with the new Tsuru Reef map, two patrol boats (the NSW RHIB and RCB-90) and a revisited Wake Island later in the season.
Season 5: Las Vegas, Area 51 and a server browser
Season 5 started on October 13, 2026, opening the game's second year, and runs in phases:
- Siege of Las Vegas (October 13): the new Vegas Strip and Area 51 maps, plus Rapid Royale in REDSEC
- Dead Space Convergence event (October 20 to November 7): a limited Halloween mode, Marker Incursion
- Casino Heist (November 10 to December 7)
- Frozen Aces (December 8): Platoons and a native server browser, two long-requested features, plus reworked Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City maps
The season also adds six weapons and two vehicles.
Is it still worth playing?
Battlefield 6 is no longer drawing launch-week crowds, but EA has kept to its seasonal roadmap, and Season 5 finally delivers the server browser and Platoons. For the business side, see our coverage of EA's $55 billion buyout, and for PC hardware, our best graphics cards for 2026.
