Mabinogi Mobile launches in Japan tomorrow, October 7, 2026, on iOS and Android. Nexon is bringing its mobile adaptation of Mabinogi, the PC MMO that first launched in Korea in 2004, to a market where the original game already built a loyal following under the name Mabinogi: Fantasy Life.

The Japanese release follows a Korean launch that turned into one of the biggest mobile MMO stories of the year. Developed by devCAT, the Nexon studio behind the original PC game, Mabinogi Mobile arrives in Japan with a chart-topping track record already behind it.

A pre-registration push with a second reward tier

Pre-registrations for the Japanese launch passed 200,000 ahead of release, a milestone that already unlocked a launch-day bundle: 20 Fashion Tickets, three Dye Ampoule Selection Boxes, and a Swordsman School Uniform Set. Nexon set a second target at 250,000 sign-ups, which adds another 10 Fashion Tickets to that same bundle if the count gets there before launch.

Fashion Tickets and dye items show how much Mabinogi Mobile leans on cosmetic customization, a design pillar carried over from the PC original's outfit and dye economy. Nexon has kept the campaign visible through its official X account and a dedicated Mabinogi Mobile area at Tokyo Game Show 2026 in September, where the game shared booth space with Nexon's upcoming title Fareidolia at Makuhari Messe.

Already Korea's Game of the Year

Mabinogi Mobile already proved itself before this Japanese launch. The game launched in South Korea on March 27, 2025, and spent its early weeks on top of both the Google Play and Apple App Store charts. By the time the 2025 Korea Game Awards arrived in November, it had racked up 3.64 million cumulative downloads and walked away with the ceremony's top prize, Game of the Year, beating out competition that included The First Berserker: Khazan and Seven Knights Re:BIRTH. It also picked up separate awards for its scenario and sound design, a detail that matters for a franchise whose PC version built its identity on more than combat.

Japanese players don't have to take Nexon's marketing at its word. The chart position held in Korea for weeks, not a single launch-day spike that faded by the following month.

What carries over from the PC version

Mabinogi Mobile is built around full cross-play and cross-progression between mobile and PC, letting a character built on a phone continue on a Windows client and back again. Nexon tied the game's progression to a PC release instead of treating the desktop version as an afterthought.

Nexon also kept what made the original Mabinogi distinct. That PC game built its reputation on cooking, housing and interior customization, and a talent system that let players invest in non-combat skills as seriously as fighting ones. Mabinogi Mobile keeps cooking and housing intact, which separates it from the combat-first loop most mobile MMOs default to. The game is free-to-play, monetized through optional in-game purchases, a standard structure for the genre that hasn't drawn the kind of backlash that follows harsher gacha systems.

Japan already has history with the Mabinogi brand: the original PC game ran there for years under local publishing. Whether that history converts into day-one numbers close to what Korea produced will show within weeks. Nexon's next goal is to hold the chart position it already took once.
